"Ski-in/ski-out Avoriaz is the ideal resort for families. The facilities there are great, the views are stunning and the short transfer from Geneva make it my first choice for a family holiday."
Avoriaz Ski Holidays
Avoriaz enjoys a sensational clifftop location with real bird’s-eye views of Morzine and beyond. Purpose-built for convenient doorstep skiing, this smart car-free resort is one of our top gateways to the enormous Portes du Soleil ski area.
Enjoy the resort
There are few places that boast more spectacular vistas than those you’ll find from your Avoriaz balcony. Watching the sun set behind the dramatic silhouette of the Alps is the stuff ski holiday dreams are made of.
Stunning balcony views aside, Avoriaz also offers fantastic ski-in/ski-out access allowing you to explore the slopes of the local Avoriaz area and beyond.
Families love the compact nature of Avoriaz, with its international atmosphere and car-free streets. Horse-drawn sleigh is the main mode of transport here, which makes for a pretty magical atmosphere. Activities-wise, you’ve got everything from swimming in the tropical indoor water park to the unusual alpine activity of ski joering, which will see you towed behind a horse on your skis.
Skiing in Avoriaz
Avoriaz is located in an excellent position on the main Portes du Soleil circuit, giving access to extensive and varied terrain, and thanks to its high altitude, it often has the best snow of the area.
Avoriaz is a purpose-built resort and as a result, most of the accommodation is ski-in/ski-out with easy access to the beginner runs. There are a number of nursery areas for beginners and a huge choice of ski schools, making Avoriaz an ideal place to learn to ski.
The Portes du Soleil is a haven for intermediates, with plenty of long cruising runs and gentle bowls. Recommendations include the runs down to Pré-La-Joux and the slopes over towards the Grand Paradis chairlift in Champéry.
For those looking for something a bit more challenging, there is tough terrain scattered about. The Swiss Wall at Chavanette and a trip to Châtel will definitely be on the itinerary.
There is a range of ski school options in Avoriaz, including a good choice of English-speaking and international schools with Supreme Ski School leading the way. Children aged three and older can join ski lessons combined with indoor play at the Village des Enfants. From the age of 4, children can enrol in lessons run by the international school Evolution 2, which comes highly recommended. For slightly older children, you can also opt for lessons with the British-run Avoriaz Alpine Ski School.
Snowboarding in Avoriaz
Avoriaz was one of the pioneering snowboarding resorts with the first terrain park in France built here in 1993 and now has a great choice of snowparks.
"The Stash" in the Lindarets valley, built in association with Burton Snowboards, has proved to be very popular. There's even a 'Lil' Stash' for younger boarders.

Après-Ski in Avoriaz
With a number of international guests, the apres scene in Avoriaz is fun with several lively bars and restaurants, although there is also plenty to offer families and those looking for something on the quieter side.
The addition of the Folie Douce has brought its unique party ambience to late afternoons in Avoriaz with music blasting and plenty of dancing in ski boots. Le Yeti also provides a lively and buzzing atmosphere with outdoor, slopeside seating.
In the evenings, you’ll often find live music at The Place or if you prefer something a bit more relaxed, the Tavaillon and Le Globetrotter are good choices. If you're looking to stay out late, head to Avoriaz's nightclub Le Yak.
Dining in Avoriaz
There is plenty of choice when it comes to dining in Avoriaz. For those in search of fine gastronomic cuisine, Les Enfants Terribles in the Hotel des Dromonts is a chic bistro serving up great French classics. La Cabane has a varied menu serving everything from traditional Savoyard favourites to sushi and is our Managing Director’s favourite spot!
La Boule de Neige, a resort institution in Place Centrale, is highly regarded for its pizzas. Residence L'Amara's on-site restaurants include the upscale Le Grand Café which is popular for lunches and dinner and also welcomes children with a separate kids menu. L'Epicerie is also a great choice and has a lovely terrace looking down the valley.
For an extended lunch on the mountain we recommend La Cremaillere in the Village des Chèvres (below the Lindarets sector). Amazing daily specials and elevated mountain food are on offer, combined with great service and ambience.
Activities in Avoriaz
Aside from skiing, you'll find a whole host of activities to enjoy in Avoriaz. There's a bowling alley and cinema as well as an outstanding indoor water park Aquariaz. This is a giant tropical dome with fantastic swimming and high-speed slides as well as spa facilities.
For something outdoors, you can try everything from ski joering (being towed on skis by horse) to mountain biking on snow.
