Morzine Ski Holidays
The bustling alpine town of Morzine has a fantastic atmosphere all year round, with everyone from skiers to mountain bikers flocking to enjoy the resort’s authentic French charm and incredible access to the expansive Portes du Soleil area.
Enjoy the resort
Spread across the valley floor at an altitude of 1,000m, Morzine boasts truly beautiful views. The town itself is also rather good-looking, with lots of wooden chalets, traditional stone buildings, and cosy bars and restaurants.
Only 75km from Geneva Airport and located in the very heart of the Portes du Soleil between the neighbouring resorts of Les Gets and Avoriaz, Morzine provides easy access to this vast ski area offering up to 600 km of pistes.
A traditional market village, Morzine exudes charm and authenticity whilst its many bars and restaurants provide the perfect retreat for indulging in a spot of après-ski. You'll find a range of other activities on offer too for those who still have the energy!
Skiing in Morzine
The Portes du Soleil ski area is made up of 12 resorts dotted either side of the French/Swiss border and encompasses approximately 600km of pistes, offering an abundance of terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
Thanks to its central location, Morzine is a great base for exploring the Portes du Soleil area and is well served by lifts going towards either Avoriaz or Les Gets from opposite sides of the resort (access between the two is via the resort's free shuttle service). Staying in Morzine means you can check where the best weather conditions are to make the most of your day on the mountain!
There are two lift pass options available for those staying in Morzine. For beginners or those looking to ski at a leisurely pace, you can choose a Morzine-Les Gets only pass which gives you access to the Pleney side of Morzine as well as the pistes at neighbouring Les Gets. The wide open area at the top of the Pleney lift is where the ski schools meet and it is a central point between Les Gets and Morzine. From here you can cruise back down gentle blue runs to the resort centre.
The Morzine and Avoriaz ski areas are both covered on the Portes du Soleil lift pass which is a great option for those wanting to explore the full potential of the ski area and access the higher slopes of Avoriaz and beyond. Morzine is linked to Avoriaz in a couple of ways: you can either take the Super Morzine lift up and ski your way over to Avoriaz or you can jump on the bus to the Prodains gondola which will whisk you up to Avoriaz in minutes.

Après-Ski in Morzine
Après-ski in Morzine is very well catered for. Le Dixie Bar on Rue du Bourg is a popular stop with pool tables, games, live rugby and football on the big screens. There's also often live music for early evening après-ski entertainment. The Tibetan Café offers an unusual mix of Asian spirit with rock & roll tunes while Le Crépu is small and busy and there's always a good atmosphere. Strong beer pulls in the crowds early on to Bar Robinson and Les Rhodos is great for more chilled out après-ski with relaxing music, newspapers and comfy seating. Bec Jaune is a microbrewery run by two ex-Londoners and offers craft beers and ales brewed on site. They also offer fresh locally-sourced food ranging from burgers to ramen and poke bowls.
For something with a bit of class, Hotel Le Samoyède's bar Le 19.38 is a popular choice for après, serving cocktails and apéritifs with tapas from 4pm. The Wine Bar at restaurant La Chaudanne is a chic but cosy vaulted cellar where you can make use of the sommelier's advice and enjoy their selection of wines and nibbles.
If you're determined to make a big night out of it, check out one of the resort's nightclubs which are open until the early hours.
Dining in Morzine
Savoyard restaurants serving typical mountain food like fondues and raclettes are in abundance in Morzine. L'Etale is a great choice and offers a varied menu. La Chaudanne offers upmarket Savoyard dishes and has an impressive wine cellar. Or head to Le Clin d'Oeil for traditional French cuisine.
For real foodies or for a special occasion, L'Atelier at Hotel Le Samoyède is widely considered to be Morzine's top fine dining destination, with its head chef preparing tasting menus using the freshest ingredients.
On the mountain, L’Alpage du Crot comes highly recommended as a great coffee stop on the long blue run down to Les Prodains (from Avoriaz). It's a perfect sun trap and serves excellent soup and sandwiches.
