"What could be better than a short transfer, a fantastic choice of ski area, views of the Mont Blanc and a huge choice of restaurants and bars for a bit of après-ski? Nothing! That's why Chamonix is world famous, and skiers return year after year!"
Chamonix Ski Holidays
The world-famous mecca of mountain adventures, Chamonix sits at the foot of the towering peak and glaciers of the mighty Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps. This spirited resort has achieved legendary status, thanks to its incredible range of skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering.
Explore the slopes
Depending on your choice of lift pass, Chamonix's extensive ski area covers up to five different areas in the valley – Brévent, Flégère, Grands Montets, Balme Vallorcine and Les Houches - each with their own unique appeal. You can also ski further afield in Courmayeur, Crans Montana and Megève but you will need to travel by public transport or have your own transport to do so.
Chamonix is renowned for its steep terrain and deep snow. But that’s not to say beginners can’t enjoy their time on the slopes here. The uncrowded slopes of the Balme Vallorcine ski area are great for cruising and there are a number of dedicated beginner areas dotted throughout the valley. The ESF ski school in Chamonix has a wide range of lesson options available. Its Piou Piou Club offers a combination of ski tuition and childcare for children aged 3 years old upwards.
The most iconic ski area for advanced skiers and riders has to be the Grands Montets sector. Here you can revel in a vast freeride heaven. Please note that the Grand Montets cable car is currently being upgraded with a new lift due to open in December 2025. Skiers can still access the majority of the Grand Montets section but the top slopes are currently inaccessible. Skiing the famous Vallée Blanche from the top of the Aiguille du Midi cable car with a qualified guide is also a must for anybody looking to test their skills.
Enjoy the resort
You can feel alpine heritage in the air in Chamonix, as the resort continues to attract avid skiers, climbers and adventurers, just as it did those early 19th-century mountain pioneers.
As a year-round town, Chamonix has a metropolitan selection of restaurants, bars and clubs to please an international crowd as well as a fantastic selection of outdoor equipment shops. The resort’s lively après-ski scene begins on the slopeside sun terraces and carries on into the early hours. Go low-key and budget-friendly or treat yourself to an evening of stylish cocktails in Les Caves and Michelin-starred dining at Albert Premier.
Chamonix has a massive choice of non-skiing activities to get stuck into. Ride the luge on rails or simply soak up the most staggering views in the Alps.

Après-Ski in Chamonix
The après-ski scene in the Chamonix valley is international and lively, with things getting started from the early evening.
Chambre Neuf, near the main train station, is a good choice during happy hour with live music and a good atmosphere. The Micro Brasserie de Chamonix (or MBC) is another popular après-ski stop, just 5 minutes' walk from the town centre. All beer is brewed on the premises and there's a good selection of bar snacks and live music. At the Les Houches end of the valley, don't miss family-friendly Brewpub Le Solerey, with its excellent craft beers and superb menu of slow smoked BBQ meats, as well as veggie and vegan options.
If you fancy a more glamorous venue, Les Caves on Rue du Moulin is a stylish wine and cocktail bar. 'Cha'Cha'Cha is a wine bar/shop with a wide range of wines, champagnes, spirits and craft beers. Here, staff will recommend the best wines and beers to enjoy with a selection of charcuterie.
Dining in Chamonix
If you're looking for a meal out in Chamonix, you'll be spoilt for choice. Options range from the Michelin-starred Albert 1er to more laid-back casual dining. The cuisine is varied, so whether you're looking for traditional Savoyard favourites or Asian dishes, you're sure to find something to suit your taste.
Some of our favourites include the Hotel Mont Blanc's restaurant Le Matafan with its stylish interiors and Munchie which serves up Asian-inspired dishes. Italian Casa Valerio does excellent pizzas and Hotel Le Morgane's restaurant Le Comptoir des Alpes, serving Franco-Italian cuisine, is also a popular choice for food lovers.
Activities in Chamonix
As Chamonix is a year-round town with a thriving community, there's plenty to do here aside from skiing.
The Aiguille du Midi pedestrian cable car takes you up to 3842m offering unforgettable panoramic views of the Alps as well as the "step into the void" attraction. Are you brave enough to stand in the lift with a see-through glass floor?
You can also try a host of other activities including tobogganing, the luge alpine coaster and snowshoeing.
