San Cassiano Ski Holidays
The awe-inspiring peaks of the dramatically jagged Dolomites are unlike anywhere else you’ll have seen. With breathtaking scenery, some incredible ski terrain and plenty of pretty mountain villages, there are so many reasons to visit the Dolomites. And that’s without mentioning the mouth-watering cuisine and hospitality that’s second to none. You can’t get much closer to ski paradise.
Explore the slopes
With the local 130km Alta Badia ski area on its doorstep, beginners based in San Cassiano may find no need to explore the wider Dolomiti Superski area. But for mile-hungry skiers and riders, you’ll have access to 529km of varied pistes, including the world-famous 40km Sella Ronda circuit and the epic 12km Marmolada descent, the longest slope in the Dolomites.
Enjoy the resort
Of all the villages in the Dolomiti Superski area, San Cassiano is perhaps the prettiest and the most tranquil. Being so close to the Austrian border, you can expect a wonderful blend of picturesque Tyrolean charm and that famously friendly Italian welcome. Sitting at an altitude of 1,537m, the local Alta Badia slopes are within easy reach, and a wealth of beautiful accommodation and fabulous dining awaits.
Where to stay
San Cassiano is home to several luxurious properties, all with excellent facilities. Choose a hotel in an elevated location overlooking over the village or in the heart of this picture-perfect resort.

Après-Ski in San Cassiano
Stop off for a drink on the slopes at the trendy Las Vegas Lodge with its extensive terrace before skiing down into the village of San Cassiano. Before dinner, enjoy a refreshing “Hugo” (an aperitivo made from prosecco, elderflower and mint leaves), a traditional drink from the Alto Adige region.
San Cassiano is a peaceful village but if you want to go out after dinner La Sieia has a lounge bar where you can enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine and Hugs’ Disco Bar is open until the early hours.
Dining in San Cassiano
The region of Alto Adige is proud of its cuisine and hospitality and you won’t be disappointed by the culinary options available.
On the slopes, look out for the mountain restaurants involved in the “Sciare con gusto” (Skiing with flavour) initiative, where you will find top quality gourmet dishes on offer, designed by some of the finest chefs in Italy. Our particular favourite was Ütia de Bioch.
In the village there is the 3 Michelin-starred St. Hubertus restaurant and also a more informal wine bar and grill (both part of the Hotel Rosa Alpina) and a selection of other charming restaurants. Slightly outside the village is the Hotel Ciasa Salares with an intimate wine cellar where you can enjoy a meat fondue whilst sampling wines from the cellar’s extensive wine list. There is even a cheese room and chocolate room where you can organise a tasting.
Activities in San Cassiano
Aside from skiing and snowboarding, the Alta Badia area offers a range of activities: snowshoeing, sledging, ice skating (Corvara), indoor tennis (Corvara) a public swimming pool (La Villa) and horse riding (Badia).
On select weeks, the Alta Badia tourist office also organises the unique 'Sommelier on the slopes' event which involves skiing between participating venues on the mountain, accompanied by both a ski instructor and a professional sommelier, to sample some of the South Tyrol region's finest wines.
