Alta Badia Ski Holidays

The awe-inspiring peaks of the dramatically jagged Dolomites are unlike anywhere else you’ll have seen. With breathtaking scenery, some incredible ski terrain and plenty of pretty mountain villages, there are so many reasons to visit the Dolomites. And that’s without mentioning the mouth-watering cuisine and hospitality that’s second to none. You can’t get much closer to ski paradise.

Explore the slopes

The Dolomiti Superski area needs no introduction. One of the finest ski areas in the world, it offers unparalleled scenery, endless km of linked pistes to enjoy, great skiing for all abilities and some of the best mountain scenery you'll find anywhere in the world.

The local slopes of the Alta Badia ski area account for 130km of perfectly groomed runs and are perfect for all abilities. More adventurous skiers can head further afield and enjoy over 500km of linked runs which include the ski areas of Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi and Val di Fassa. If you love cruising around the mountain, this will be your paradise.

The 40km Sella Ronda ski circuit should be on every skier's bucket list and provides ample opportunity to marvel at the imposing Sella Massif from every angle. The Marmolada also provides fantastic skiing at heights of over 3000m and shouldn't be missed. History lovers will also be impressed by the First World War out which requires a full day to complete.

Enjoy the resorts

A number of charming villages provide access to the fabulous Alta Badia ski area. The hardest decision you'll have to make is which one to stay in.

San Cassiano

Of all the villages in the Dolomiti Superski area, San Cassiano is perhaps the prettiest and the most tranquil. Being so close to the Austrian border, you can expect a wonderful blend of picturesque Tyrolean charm and that famously friendly Italian welcome. Sitting at an altitude of 1,537m, the local Alta Badia slopes are within easy reach, and a wealth of beautiful accommodation and fabulous dining awaits. This village definitely has an upmarket, luxury feel without losing any of its traditional charm.

Corvara

Corvara is a small village in the heart of the Dolomiti Superski area and sits at 1568m. You’ll find a good range of accommodation, most of which is still family owned and operated, and an excellent collection of popular restaurants to sample. The village itself is fairly strung out but the traditional chalet style architecture and picturesque church bring plenty of charm to the village. The scenery is exceptional and it’s these stunning views that really do all the talking. Wherever you go in the village, you’ll find excellent service, high quality hospitality and a warm welcome.

La Villa

At an altitude of 1433m, La Villa is a pretty village with traditional chalet style buildings and a lovely blend of Italian and Austrian culture. With easy access to the Piz La Ila gondola, the village provides a great starting point for exploring the Dolomiti Superski area.  There's also a nice choice of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from and some excellent accommodation. Like its neighbouring villages, the surrounding scenery is spectacularly breathtaking.

Where to stay

Alta Badia is home to several excellent properties, all with fantastic facilities, outstanding service and wonderful gastronomy. The largest collection of hotels in our programme can be found in San Cassiano where there's a superb range of 4 and 5-star hotels. Most hotels are family-run and offer fantastic views.

Après-Ski in Alta Badia

San Cassiano

Stop off for a drink on the slopes at the trendy Las Vegas Lodge with its extensive terrace before skiing down into the village of San Cassiano. Before dinner, enjoy a refreshing “Hugo” (an aperitivo made from prosecco, elderflower and mint leaves), a traditional drink from the Alto Adige region. San Cassiano is a peaceful village but if you want to go out after dinner La Sieia has a lounge bar where you can enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine.

Corvara

Corvara is generally a quiet and sophisticated resort with much focus paid to its dining scene rather than any wild partying. L’Murin at the Hotel La Perla is generally pretty lively from the early afternoon as skiers come off the slopes looking to refuel. You’ll often find DJs here and if the mood takes you might find yourself dancing on a table. The Iceberg Lounge at the Col Alto offers a sleek lounge bar experience with fantastic cocktails, an excellent range of sparkling wines and sometimes live music as well.

La Villa

At the top of the Piz La Ila gondola, Club Moritzino starts the apres ski sessions from 14:00 each day with DJ sets and a lively atmosphere. The sun terrace of the Hotel Majun is also a perfect place to relax with an Aperol spritz and soak in the atmosphere.

Dining in Alta Badia

Alta Badia is proud of its cuisine and hospitality and you won’t be disappointed by the culinary options available. On the slopes, look out for the mountain restaurants involved in the “Sciare con gusto” (Skiing with flavour) initiative, where you will find top quality gourmet dishes on offer, designed by some of the finest chefs in Italy. Our particular favourite was Ütia de Bioch.

San Cassiano

The dining options at the Hotel Ciasa Salares come highly recommended. Check out the intimate wine cellar where you can enjoy a meat fondue whilst sampling some excellent wine. There is even a cheese room and chocolate room where you can organise a tasting. If you're looking for some authentic Japanese cuisine, head to the newly renovated Hotel Aman Rosa Alpina where you can sample a delicious multi-course tasting menu.

Corvara

Restaurant L’Ostí offers upmarket dining in a modern setting, Burjè 1968 offers excellent upscale tasting menus in an elegant dining room and if you’re looking for Michelin-starred dining, La Stüa de Michil should be top of your list. For something more traditionally Alpine, the restaurant at the Berghotel Ladinia is a great choice with excellent quality local produce offering good value for money.

La Villa

The restaurant at the Hotel Majun comes highly recommended by the Ski Independence team and serves local specialities using seasonal ingredients.

Activities in Alta Badia

Aside from skiing and snowboarding, the Alta Badia area offers a range of activities: snowshoeing, sledging, ice skating (Corvara), indoor tennis (Corvara) a public swimming pool (La Villa) and horse riding (Badia).

On select weeks, the Alta Badia tourist office also organises the unique 'Sommelier on the slopes' event which involves skiing between participating venues on the mountain, accompanied by both a ski instructor and a professional sommelier, to sample some of the South Tyrol region's finest wines.
