Europe boasts some of the biggest and most illustrious ski areas in the world, perfect for mile-hungry skiers and snowboarders.

We can't think of anything better than long days spent exploring the slopes to your heart's content. Cruise glorious pistes, drop in on new valleys, discover the best lunch spots on the mountain and end your day tired, aching and totally elated. Which of Europe's biggest ski areas will you choose to go on your next ski holiday?

The Three Valleys

With an immense 600km of interconnected pistes, the Three Valleys is hands-down the largest ski area in the world. Revel in a huge choice of runs for all abilities and explore everything that each valley has to offer. You can happily ski and snowboard between all three valleys, visiting the resorts of Val Thorens, Méribel and Courchevel along the way. There's even a secret fourth valley, Orelle, with wonderfully quiet slopes and stunning vistas.

Dolomiti Superski

Radiating out like spokes from the famous Sella Ronda ski circuit, the linked valleys of the Dolomiti Superski area total more than 500km of sublime terrain. There’s something to suit all levels, but the Marmolada descent is a real must

for anybody visiting this ski area. Amongst the valleys, you’ll find many beautiful resorts and villages, such as San Cassiano, Ortisei, Arabba and Santa Cristina, all nestled at the base of the majestic Italian Dolomites. When you visit this stunning ski area, you’ll ask yourself why you waited so long to do so!

The Four Valleys

The largest linked ski area in Switzerland encompasses four valleys and six resorts, including chic VerbierWith 410km of varied pistes and mind-blowing views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn, these Swiss valleys are a real joy to explore. While all abilities will enjoy skiing and snowboarding in the Four Valleys, the area is particularly well suited to experienced intermediates and experts. One moment you could be skiing on top of the world on the Mont Fort glacier and the next you’re taking on one of the best mogul fields in Europe under the Chassoure gondola.

Portes du Soleil

Stretching from Les Gets in France all the way over to Champéry in Switzerland, the mammoth Portes du Soleil ski area delivers an unbelievable 600km of pistes (although not all of them are linked) and countless spectacular panoramas. When the sun’s shining and the snow’s fresh, there are few places we’d rather be.

The Portes du Soleil slopes offer a fantastic variety of terrain, including the notoriously steep ‘Swiss Wall’ and some challenging offpiste. There are 12 resorts in total to dip into, including Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets and Châtel.
