My last trip of the 2010/11 season was to Avoriaz for the after season party and I couldn’t help noticing how much work was going on and also the large inflatable bears which were attached to the building work - a very novel way of disguising the cranes! [caption id="attachment_2324" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Avoriaz bears by moonlight!"]Photo: http://hellopeagreen.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html[/caption] I was intrigued by how many new buildings were being put up and the resort is going to have a huge revamp for the 2011/12 ski  season. For those of you who know Avoriaz well, it’s going to look very new and to be honest really good for next season. There’s going to be three new residences one of which will be a P&V premium property, L’Amara, a 4* self catered residence which will have a pool, fitness area, steam room and sauna. The other two residences will provide more options with a 3* property called the Residence Les Crozats and a more budget option called Electra which is at the top of the resort. It will all remain car free with a new 800-space covered car park at the resort entrance and a new 207-space car park underneath the new Amara area of the resort. If you've not been to Avoriaz before the streets effectively act as pistes through the resort, making virtually every property ski in/ ski out. [caption id="attachment_2325" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Residence Les Crozats in Avoriaz"][/caption] There’s also going to be a full extension of the Falaise area with more shops, bars and restaurants and new ice rink, right in the heart of the resort. It certainly brings Avoriaz into the 21st century and is another fab reason to go. If you would like to try the Portes du Soleil area I can definitely recommend Avoriaz as you have easy access over into Switzerland and the other resorts of Chatel and Morzine. With this new development it will certainly open up more availability and will be great to have a good 4* self catered option there too. The changes don't stop there either, for the 2012 season, Avoriaz will see the opening of Aquariaz -  a brand new indoor water park in the mountains!  This is a very exciting addition and will be unique to Avoriaz. It'll feature river rapids, slides, a water playhouse, a paddling pool, a large pool with climbing walls, massage benches and a superb open-air jacuzzi heated to 34°C! Wow! [caption id="attachment_2326" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Aquariaz aqua and leisure centre"][/caption] In addition to this fun stuff, there will also be a new resort reception and an undercover area under which you can unload your luggage from your transfer or car before progressing into the car free resort. If you're staying in Morzine or Les Gets and want to visit Avoriaz, you'll also benefit from changes, as there's going to be a new gondola from 2012 to replace the current Prodains lift, which will be able to provide passengers and skiers with a more comfortable ride up from the Prodains Valley. Phew - it's exciting times for Avoriaz! If you'd like more information on the development in Avoriaz area, give us a call and we'd be more than happy to discuss all the new options with you.
