December 2012
As Dean Martin and Michael Buble have sung before this is certainly being sung by ski resorts all over Europe and in Canada at the moment. With not wanting to sound like Michael Fish or that nice lady Carol who reads the weather on BBC, there is a long prolonged low front sitting right over central Europe, bringing cold and snowy conditions that’s dumping serious amounts of the white stuff as low as 800 metres above sea level. Over the next few days leading up to the weekend resorts in the Swiss and French Alps are expecting up to a metre of fresh snow and resorts such as Les Gets and Chamonix have already been suggesting opening the lift ticket windows and cranking up those lifts. This is no Alpine farmers fable of “the cows are all looking West”, winter has arrived in the Alps big time.
Here are some of the shots of the resorts:

The photo above is from Mammoth Mountain where they saw a huge storm drop over 6 feet of snow. If you know Mammoth you may recognise this sign. It’s at the top of the gondola and is 18 ft high – yes 18 ft high and this patroller is sitting on top of it!
The World Cup downhill has run in Lake Louise with superb conditions and Val d’Isère’s Premier Neige will be taking place next week for sure, as long as it actually stops snowing! Lots to get excited about this coming winter and it hasn't started any better. If you have booked your holiday get prepared!
