Our next insider guide come from Karen Moodie, an avid skier from a very young age and always planning her next big ski adventure...

Where did you ski last year?

I skied Flaine in the Grand Massif for the first time – and definitely not the last! Flaine has prime location in a mountain bowl for catching the snow so even early April we were treated to excellent conditions. I stayed at the Hotel Rocky Pop which is as fun and inviting as the name suggests with an all-round relaxed atmosphere for all ages.

Where do you plan to ski this coming winter?

I’m going to Zermatt and I’m so excited! Zermatt has been on my must-visit list since I started working at Ski Independence many years ago and I can’t wait to explore. From the unique Matterhorn scenery to the excellent Swiss hospitality, it’s set to be a very special trip.

Which resort do you keep going back to?

Hands down… Avoriaz. I grew up skiing here from a young age with my family and now even as an adult I still absolutely love it. Part of the huge Portes du Soleil ski area, the terrain offers great variety and stretches right over into Switzerland meaning you can treat yourself to extra tasty mountain lunches. I think Avoriaz itself has such charm. With the bells of the horse and carriages through the village and stunning views over the plateau down to Morzine, this resort really holds a special place in my heart.

Are there any resorts still on your bucket list?

Skiing the Dolomites is top of my European bucket list. The entire experience just looks amazing, from incredible scenery, world-class pasta (yum!) and beautiful villages, what more could you want! San Cassiano looks particularly charming.

Where did you have your best ever ski holiday?

That’s a tough one! Being on skis makes me happy no matter where I am (even in Scotland!) but if I had to choose, then probably Whistler combined with a city break in Vancouver. With two huge mountains to ski, a buzzing atmosphere to soak up in the evenings and true Canadian, super friendly hospitality, Whistler really has it all. We spent a few nights in Vancouver at the end which is so worth doing – it’s a really vibrant city with lots to explore.
