Recently returned from an early season trip to Park City in Utah, Ski Independence Sales Manager, Gareth, is the first among us to chalk up ski days for 2023/24, and he's planning lots more this season...
Where did you ski last year?
I went to Flaine with my family and some friends in the Easter holidays. We arrived after two days of fresh snow and had 6 days of glorious spring weather. For the kids in the group, it was their first time doing multiple days of ski school and our ESF instructor was amazing. Residence Les Terrasses d’Eos couldn’t have worked better, giving each family their own space and the kids a great pool to splash and play in.

Where do you plan to ski this coming winter?
We’re going back to Flaine! It’s a big call as everything was so perfect last winter. It’s going to be as good again, isn’t it? Of course it is!!
Which resort do you keep going back to?
The resorts I have skied most would probably be Whistler and Tignes – two of the very best ski destinations in their respective countries. I love the huge Tignes ski area and the laid-back feel around the resort when you’re not skiing. The lift system is hard to beat. Whistler just has it all – reliable snow, great ‘big mountain’ skiing (even for a keen intermediate like me), fabulous Canadian hospitality and a huge choice of where to stay and play.

Are there any resorts still on your bucket list?
I have been very lucky to ski so many of the places I wanted to. Now my attention turns to taking my family - new to skiing - to some of these resorts. My top family destinations are Banff and Aspen. Both have incredible mountain communities and that really enhances a trip for me. I love my time off the mountains almost as much as my time on them in both places, and I know the family will love them too.

Where did you have your best ever ski holiday?
That is a tough question. If I really had to choose I’d plump for the best ever twin centre holiday, not one you’ll find on many people’s radars. I went with a bunch of friends to Montgenvère for 5 days - we had huge snowfall and nobody on the mountain to track it out. Then I took the train to London and flew to Denver before transferring to Aspen for a week to celebrate a wonderful friend’s 30th birthday.
