Karen A, March 2024

I'm just back from another great week in Avoriaz – a perennial favourite in the Anderson household, and a resort we’ve been coming to regularly for more than 40 years! So as you can imagine, in that time we’ve seen some changes and all sorts of different snow conditions...

Balcony Sunset - Avoriaz - March 2024

This winter has been a little leaner for snow than some, leading to some pretty scary looking reports in some sections of the media, but our customer feedback has been pretty positive about the snow so I was interested to see things first hand. And I wasn’t disappointed!

Avoriaz is 90 mins from Geneva Airport, sits at 1800 metres at resort level and is a ski-in/ski-out, traffic free resort. Snow cover is pretty vital for getting about on the horse drawn sleighs and on skis, and although it’s not a ‘traditional’ village it’s full of unique charm and character. Being able to slide out of our ski room and onto the snow is one of the big attractions of the resort – and it’s as easy as ever.

The Portes du Soleil is one of the most extensive ski areas in the Alps and Avoriaz is ideally located right in the middle so you can explore the circuit in all directions. Fair to say that the lower altitude town of Morzine is experiencing spring a little earlier than they’d hope but it’s so easy to get up higher that guests staying there can access Avoriaz quickly and easily too. We headed over to the slopes above Chatel - which is a snowy winter wonderland with quiet slopes and great restaurants; as well as the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil where we found excellent conditions around Les Crosets.

We even got down to our favourite restaurant in the ‘Goat Village’ of Lindarets! The on piste conditions across the area are in great shape and though not every day was a bluebird we used that as an excuse for some long lunches. Product research of course!😉
