With some of the best ski resorts in the Alps, the Aosta Valley is the ideal place to visit if you’re looking to sample a slice of Italian life on the slopes. With world-famous resorts like Cervinia, Courmayeur and La Thuile all included in the same Aosta Valley lift pass, it’s a destination that works particularly well for a multi-centre itinerary or road trip through the Alps. You can even include a visit to a historic Roman city en route. Read on for our suggested Aosta Valley ski safari.
Destination 1: La Thuile

At just under 2 hours from Turin Airport, it’s an easy journey to the brilliant resort of La Thuile. Check in to the beautiful Hotel Montana Lodge & Spa and let your holiday begin. That might start with a visit to the impressive spa or a drink and a bite to eat in the hotel. If you’ve taken an early morning flight, maybe you’re itching to get straight out on the slopes and start exploring the San Bernardo ski area. The ski area stretches all the way over to neighbouring La Rosière in France and crossing a border on skis never loses its appeal. With more than 150km of linked slopes and a good choice of terrain for all abilities, it’s the ideal place to test your ski legs. There’s more than enough skiing to keep even the most avid of skiers happy for at least a few days.
Destination 2: Courmayeur

The charming resort of Courmayeur is just a 20 minute drive from La Thuile and offers some of the best views of Monte Bianco (or Mont Blanc) you’ll find anywhere in the world. With an impressive historic centre and a lively atmosphere, Courmayeur brings a touch of glamour to the Aosta Valley. We recommend a stay at the modern Hotel Le Massif. With great facilities and a super location close to the main cable car, you’re also within easy walking distance of the resort centre. Spend a few nights here to make the most of the 100km of brilliant ski slopes and on-mountain dining options.

Destination 3: Cervinia

Next stop: Cervinia. The drive from Courmayeur to this world-class resort takes around 1 hour 30 minutes and passes through the historic town of Aosta. It’s well worth stopping here for a spot of lunch and a wander round the old town where you’ll find an impressive collection of Roman monuments as well as a good selection of shops. Die hard skiers can even cram in another day on the mountain – there’s a cable car that departs from the centre of Aosta and takes you to the Pila ski area. This is a great resort with some brilliant terrain (approx. 70km) and is well worth checking out.
Continue up the road to Cervinia and make your way to the beautiful VRetreats Cervino. This is an exceptional 5-star hotel with beautiful views of Monte Cervino (although you might be more familiar with its other name – the Matterhorn). You might be tempted to spend your whole holiday at the hotel thanks to the impressive wellness facilities and dining options but venture out on to the slopes and you’ll be so impressed. The ski area is enormous and stretches all the way over to Zermatt in Switzerland with 360km of amazing slopes to explore. Ski here for days on end and it never gets dull!
