Scenic Runs & Quiet Slopes - The Perfect Alpine Escape

March 2026

At the beginning of March, our North America Product Manager, Karen M, headed to Andermatt, taking full advantage of the resort now being part of the Epic Pass, which includes unlimited access to the Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis ski area.

Here, she shares some of her top highlights from the trip, with photos to match.

Access into the main ski area couldn’t be easier, with the Gütsch-Express gondola whisking you from the village at 1,444m up to 2,344m. From the moment you step on, you’re treated to incredible panoramic views. It was an unforgettable start to our Andermatt ski resort experience.

Connect from peak to peak

One of the most unique things about skiing in Andermatt is how the ski area stretches through the valley. Unlike many resorts, you stay at a fairly consistent altitude while the lift system seamlessly connects you from peak to peak. Each section is clearly highlighted in yellow, making it easy to track your progress across the Andermatt SkiArena. Perfect for exploring without worrying about getting lost!

You can always count on a Swiss train

If you do find yourself a little too far along at the end of the day, don’t worry. You can hop on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn train back through the valley and all the way down to Andermatt village. This is a beautiful journey in its own right.

Gemmstock

On day 2, the sun was shining again and so we decided to check out the Gemmstock ski area - although on the same lift pass, it sits separately from the main ski area. You can hop on the free resort shuttle buses to access the Gurschen-Bahn gondola or if you're staying in the centre of the old village, it is walkable. We headed straight up the two gondolas and were treated to spectacular mountain views.

After taking two gondolas up, we were rewarded with breathtaking mountain views, and something even better...

Heading up to the north facing slopes of the Gemmstock in Andermatt

...the quietest slopes we’ve ever experienced on a ski holiday! Gemmstock is ideal for intermediate to advanced skiers, with a focus on long vertical descents and incredible off-piste opportunities. If you’re looking to escape the crowds, this part of Andermatt is a real highlight.

Corduroy perfection

Back over to the Andermatt side for day 3 where it was corduroy perfection and we found our favourite run of the resort - if you're a good intermediate skier then the fast paced variety throughout the run from the top of the Schneehüenerstock to Oberalppass is sure to please!

Off the slopes

In the evenings, we enjoyed pottering around the village, enjoying the quaint cafés and traditional restaurants. There is a slow pace of life here which suits us perfectly for a laid-back ski holiday.

Dining

A few dining highlights during our stay included delicious pizzas at Spycher, great wings at Pinte Pub, and standout Pan-Asian dishes at Nooba - perfect for mixing things up after days on the mountain.

The Radisson Blu Andermatt

We stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the Reuss area of Andermatt, just a short six-minute walk to the gondola and conveniently located on the resort shuttle route for both the Andermatt and Gemmstock ski areas. The hotel itself is cosy and inviting, with a fireplace in the lobby and stunning views from the swimming pool. Evenings spent playing Uno by the fire with a glass of wine were a definite highlight.

A mini city break

With our flight back to Edinburgh not until 5.30pm we took an earlier train connection back to Zurich Airport, dropped our bags with Swiss Air then headed into Zurich city centre for a mini city break - I'd highly recommend doing this as it felt like we made the most of our last day rather than it feeling just like a travel day. From the main train station, head into the pretty city streets and browse through the boutique shops and local restaurants before grabbing some bakery goods and sitting by the Limmat River.
