Vancouver is a city of bright lights nestled among some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world -If you’re thinking of travelling to Whistler for your next ski holiday, we highly recommend spending a day or two in Vancouver before heading home. The Ski Independence team have put together a guide with all their favourite places to eat and things to do in Vancouver. Whilst visiting, be sure to stay at The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The hotel has gone through a big refurb and emerged every bit as smart as its younger sisters by the harbourside.  I love the new look!  I also love their canine ambassadors.  You can stop by the concierge desk and say hi to Ella and Elly – two ‘failed’ service dog recruits – deemed to be too social for a career as guide dogs. Day 1 Morning Vancouver has a huge range of breakfast options. Jam Cafe is a favourite with the Ski Independence team - The Southern inspired menu is delicious and is worth the wait for a table. Afternoon [caption id="attachment_11446" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Granville Island[/caption] Take the Aquabus to Granville Island. Although Granville Island isn’t technically an island, it is best described as part food market, part theatre district, part art studio. And if that sounds a bit quirky, that’s exactly what it is!  You can easily pull together a picnic from the smorgasbord of artisan bread, cured meats, local cheese, craft beer and incredible seafood on offer.  It’s also a great place to pick up a unique gift or piece of jewellery. All in the centre of the city! Evening Head to Granville Island Brewing and take a tour. Tours are offered daily, and are operated on a first come first serve basis. Tours of Canada's first modern microbrewery last about a half hour and include a souvenir glass and a taste of four brews. Day 2 Morning [caption id="attachment_11447" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Gastown[/caption] Gastown is Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood, and still retains its cobbled steets and circular lamps, and steam clock. Wander round and explore the unique combination of old and new. Walk to the end of Water Street to visit the statue of the man who started it all, Gassy Jack. Head to Meat & Bread for a quick lunch. Who knew the humble sandwich could be so good. Afternoon Take a float plane tour to experience some of the best views British Columbia has to offer. Travelling by seaplane is a great way to view the city, the water, and where the mountains meet. Evening Eat out at Forage. The restaurant has established itself as one of the standouts in Vancouver’s West End dining scene. With a focus on fresh local meat, seafood, and produce, Forage brings the best of British Columbia to your table. Make sure you book ahead!   [caption id="attachment_11449" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Stanley Park Seawall[/caption] [caption id="attachment_11439" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Fairmont Hotel Vancouver Fairmont Hotel Vancouver[/caption]
