Half a century ago on the broad cattle plains around the town of Steamboat Springs, one of the local rangers - a man named John Fetcher - stopped to look up at the peaks in the distance and suddenly thought to himself, "Hey, why not put a ski lift up there?..." Fast forward nearly 50 years and Steamboat has been developed into a world-class, family-friendly and forward-thinking ski resort with numerous accolades under its belt and an awesome snow record with over 30 feet of snow falling on average each and every year. "Champagne Powder" was coined to describe the amazing snow quality here and you'd be hard pressed to find tree skiing to rival Steamboat.
