The Team, April 2024
Already very much on the map for adaptive sports, Whistler is a fantastic option for adaptive winter sports like sit skiing, Nordic and alpine skiing. Over the years, we've dealt with several adaptive bookings and we want to help everyone to experience the joys of winter sports, whatever their abiliity. With the 2025 Invictus Games coming to Vancouver and Whistler between the 8th and 16th February 2025, there's going to be renewed interest in adaptive skiing and snowboarding in Whistler for the 2024/25 season.
Whistler has a world-class adaptive skiing programme operated by Whistler Adaptive (a not-for-profit society that provides year-round recreational programmes for clients of all ages with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities). A number of Ski Independence clients regularly use the Whistler Adaptive programmes, and for the most part they are at a self-sufficient level or they travel with family members. We set things up for them, but leave them to directly deal with Whistler Adaptive for the on-mountain element of their holiday.
We will always go the extra mile to ensure our adaptive clients get the best possible experience when they visit Whistler. We’ll take the time to understand the specific needs of each client, and adjust each element of a holiday itinerary to suit those needs. That might mean special assistance through the airport, a transfer vehicle with wheelchair accessibility, hotel rooms with the correct facilities guaranteed or a specific adaptive ski programme on the mountain. Every client is different – we understand that - and are here to help with every aspect of a ski holiday.
