Whether you’re in the Rockies, Sierra Nevada, Wasatch, Tetons or the Monashees, or indeed any of the other soaring mountain ranges in North America, you can expect to ski and ride some of the very best powder snow conditions you’ve ever experienced. When it snows in North America it generally snows hard – a snowfall of several feet overnight is not uncommon.

Some of our featured resorts receive almost 40 feet of snow each winter - that’s approximately the height of three London buses stacked on top of each other. But it’s not all about the quantity, it’s also about the quality. A combination of cold, dry polar air mixing with moist ocean air over the continent’s massive mountain ranges plus the high altitude of the resorts, makes for a perfect recipe for snow that is light, dry and plentiful.

Such exceptional powder snow of course, makes North America a top destination for off-piste aficionados, but that’s not to say it doesn’t work just as well on groomed trails too! North American resorts also boast longer, more consistent ski seasons than their European cousins, kicking things off from mid-November right through to mid-April, even late-May in places. But which resorts are the snowiest? Well that all depends what you're looking for.

Any resort that receives close to 40 feet of snow per winter can be regarded as exceptional – these include Whistler and Revelstoke in British Columbia, Snowbird and Solitude in Utah, Squaw Valley and Kirkwood in California, and Jackson Hole in Wyoming.

Champagne Powder® is a phrase used to describe the premium snow conditions in Steamboat, Colorado. Think light and fluffy powder. You can also make tracks for the other big Colorado and Utah resorts such as Breckenridge and Park City.

Hit the conditions just right and everywhere is a favourite. On a blue-bird epic powder day you can’t beat Aspen or Vail in Colorado. If steep and deep is your thing, then the team all love Jackson Hole and Whistler, and if cruising the corduroy makes you smile, head to Beaver Creek or Big White.
