We’re used to seeing TV adverts for theme parks, tropical islands and city breaks but not for ski resorts. The Austrian resort of Ischgl has become one of the first ski resorts to have a fully storyboarded and directed TV ad screened in Britain. When many ski resorts are looking to use more cost effective marketing methods such as Facebook and Twitter to get the word out, Ischgl have invested a six figure sum into their TV campaign. The ad will be aired on channels including Sky News, Sky Sports News, MTV, Discovery Travel and Living, E4 and Eurosport during a three-week campaign.

"Showing this movie-quality ad on British TV is an exciting step for us and demonstrates our commitment to the UK ski market," said Ischgl’s Tourist Office Director Andreas Steibl. "Skiers and boarders from the UK are highly valued by Ischgl and the numbers coming to our resort have been steadily increasing. They are obviously very impressed by what they see, too, because we are experiencing an increasingly high level of repeat bookings. "Ischgl has become a very cosmopolitan and fashionable resort, with some of the best slopes as well as the best hotels in the Alps, and such a stylish TV ad emphasises this image. We hope to welcome many more British holidaymakers to Ischgl." Ischgl is famous for being a party town as well as its first class skiing and snowboarding – there are over 230km of groomed pistes suitable for all abilities. You can even pop over the Swiss border for some duty free shopping in Samnaun, just remember you’ll need to ski back with it all! It’s a long & expensive taxi ride back, not that I’m saying that from experience or anything?! To celebrate the start and end to every season, Ischgl put on one of the best parties in the Alps with a huge open air concert, which this year was Beth Ditto and her Indie rock group Gossip and this week it was just announced that US band The Killers will perform on Saturday 30 April, on the penultimate day of the season. Now that will be some party! However, it is almost as easy as that to get from the office to the slopes of Ischgl. With direct flights into Innsbruck from Easyjet and British Airways and then a short transfer of just over an hour to resort, you can be on the slopes by lunch time! If Ischgl ticks all the boxes that you look for in a ski holiday, then give the Ski Independence  reservations team a ring on 0131 243 8097 and you can be enjoying the stunning scenery, world class skiing, an Austrian tea dance before you know it!
