Vail Resorts, the management company who own Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, Beaver Creek, Heavenly, Northstar-at-Tahoe and A-Basin are going to be busy over the coming months making their resorts even better for the coming season. Here’s a few details on what’s new in their resorts throughout Colorado and California.
Northstar-at-Tahoe™ is going to be bigger and better for the 2011-12 season.
Located on the North shore of Lake Tahoe, the resort of Northstar-at-Tahoe™ is receiving $30 million of improvements on and off the mountain. On the mountain, there is going to be a new high-speed quad chairlift on the “Backside”, new snowmaking facilities and a new restaurant at the top of the Tahoe Zephyr Express Lift. In resort, those who like to shop will be pleased to hear that there are going to be new Patagonia and Burton retail shops and a larger North Face store – perfect for picking up some kit for your holiday – and also a new restaurant in the Village which hopes to brings additional energy and entertainment to the resort.
New restaurant to open at Mid-Vail
“The 10th” is the new restaurant which is going to be open for the 2011-12 season at Mid Vail. Named after the founders of Vail, the 10th Mountain Division soliders of World War II, the restaurant will be sure to honour those who brought us this fantastic resort. With stunning views of the Gore Range, it’s going to be great place to stop to refuel whilst on the mountain.
Heavenly will be “the” place to learn to ski & board in 2011-12.
Adventure Peak, at the top of the gondola in Heavenly, is going to be a hive of activity next season with the addition of a new children’s ski school building. Already home to tubing, snow biking, sightseeing and dining, Adventure Peak will see the completion of the Tamarack Lodge, which will be the permanent home to the world-class Heavenly ski school. The kids won’t want to leave!
Breckenridge turns 50 on the 11/11/11
If you’re looking for a party then head to Breckenridge where you can join in the celebrations of the resorts 50th birthday on the 11th November 2011. Events will include the Nike 6.0 Winter Dew Tour stop in December, Ullr Fest and the International Snow Sculpture Championships in January and the new Spring Fever Festival in April.
Non-stop fun for families in Keystone
If you’re looking to travel to North America with your family, then Keystone should definitely be on your list. There are going to be expanded Kid’s Adventure Zones throughout the resort for 2011-12 as well as one of the biggest family programs including the Kidtopia Snow Fort on Dercum Mountain – the world’s largest snow fort which is going to be even bigger for 2011-12. Kidtopia is home to a wide array of activities including arts and crafts, cookie decorating, teen nights and disco tubing – the whole family will be sure to have fun!
No more hanging around in Rose Bowl in Beaver Creek.
2011-12 will see the construction of a new high speed quad chairlift in Rose Bowl at Beaver Creek. The new chairlift will cut the uplift time by half, resulting in a quick 5 ½ minute journey – this will mean less waiting around for your turns, although I don’t think you often see a lift queue in Beaver Creek! There are also plans to groom more runs in Rose Bowl, providing more accessible runs from the new chair.
